Neighbourhood Lightbox Project

Bringing critique into places it doesn’t normally reach, I broadcast statistics from the Canadian Women’s foundation to the Kensington/Cedar-Cottage Neighbourhood in Vancouver. I documented the work involved in creating the print, making the art labour visible.

The quote is from an interview of the artist duo Hannah Quinlan and Rosie Hastings. Their 2021 show, ‘Disgrace’ at the London’s Arcadia Missa gallery, “explores the often overlooked historical connections between British feminism and the political right”.

In bringing my home into my art practice, and for that matter, bringing my body into it, I am having to confront my privilege. What does it mean to have a print in my window that addresses invisible care labour when I co-own my property? My political power is contingent upon my privilege and property.
